 Sambar




Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Toor dal (split pigeon peas)

  • 1 medium Onion, chopped

  • 1 medium Tomato, chopped

  • 1 cup Mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, potato)

  • 2-3 Green chilies, slit

  • 1 tsp Ginger, grated

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

  • 2 tbsp Sambar powder

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tbsp Oil

  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

  • 6 cups Water

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Pressure cooker

  • Pan

  • Spatula

  • Chopping board

  • Knife

Instructions:

  • Rinse the Toor dal thoroughly and cook it in a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water for about 3-4 whistles until soft.

  • In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds, chopped onions, and green chilies. Sauté until onions are translucent.

  • Add grated ginger and chopped tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes are soft.

  • Add mixed vegetables, turmeric powder, and salt. Stir well and cook for a few minutes.

  • Add the cooked Toor dal along with the remaining water. Mix well and bring to a boil.

  • Add Sambar powder and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or idli.
