You can easily make them at home with fresh ingredients and a little love!
In this article, we’ll take you through a simple, foolproof recipe to make perfect samosas — crunchy on the outside and bursting with flavor inside.
Ingredients You’ll Need
For the Dough
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 tbsp oil or ghee
½ tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
½ tsp salt
Water (as needed)
For the Filling
3 medium potatoes (boiled and mashed)
½ cup green peas (boiled)
1-2 green chilies (finely chopped)
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp cumin seeds
½ tsp coriander powder
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp red chili powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp oil
Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
Salt to taste
For Frying
Oil (enough to deep fry)
Step-by-Step Recipe
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and carom seeds.
Add oil or ghee and rub it into the flour until it feels crumbly.
Gradually add water and knead a firm dough (not too soft).
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Make the Filling
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
Add ginger paste, green chilies, and sauté for a minute.
Add boiled potatoes, green peas, and all the spices.
Mix well and cook for 3–4 minutes.
Turn off the heat, add fresh coriander leaves, and let the filling cool.
Step 3: Shape the Samosas
Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
Roll each ball into an oval shape (about 6 inches long).
Cut the oval in half to form two semi-circles.
Take one semi-circle, fold it into a cone shape, and seal the edge with a little water.
Fill the cone with the prepared potato filling.
Seal the open side by pressing firmly, making sure there are no gaps.
Step 4: Fry to Perfection
Heat oil on medium flame (not too hot).
Fry the samosas in small batches until they turn golden brown and crispy.
Remove and drain on a paper towel.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot samosas with mint chutney, tamarind sauce, or tomato ketchup. Pair them with a cup of masala chai for the ultimate experience!
Tips for Perfect Samosas
Always fry on medium-low heat to get a crispy outer layer.
Add a little semolina (rava) to the dough for extra crunch.
You can experiment with fillings — try chicken, paneer, or even cheese for a unique twist.
