Classic Coffee Cake
Ingredients:
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 large eggs
2 cups sour cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Kitchen Tools Needed:
Large mixing bowl
Whisk
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
Baking pan
Spatula
Wire rack
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large baking pan (or multiple smaller pans).
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
In another bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts (if using) to create the streusel topping.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, then sprinkle half of the streusel mixture on top. Pour the remaining batter over the streusel, and top with the remaining streusel mixture.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled cake.
