Classic Doughnuts



Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for coating)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Mixing bowls

  • Whisk

  • Rolling pin

  • Doughnut cutter

  • Deep fryer or large pot

  • Slotted spoon

  • Paper towels

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg.

  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

  • Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick.

  • Use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts and holes.

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).

  • Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.

  • Remove the doughnuts and drain on paper towels.

  • While still warm, coat the doughnuts in powdered sugar.
