Classic Doughnuts
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
2 large eggs
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
1 cup powdered sugar (for coating)
Kitchen Tools Needed:
Mixing bowls
Whisk
Rolling pin
Doughnut cutter
Deep fryer or large pot
Slotted spoon
Paper towels
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg.
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick.
Use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts and holes.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
Remove the doughnuts and drain on paper towels.
While still warm, coat the doughnuts in powdered sugar.
