Ingredients:

  • 100g almond flour

  • 100g powdered sugar

  • 75g egg whites (about 2 large eggs)

  • 100g granulated sugar

  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar

  • Food coloring (optional)

  • Filling of choice (buttercream, ganache, or jam)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Mixing bowls

  • Whisk

  • Piping bag

  • Baking sheet

  • Parchment paper

  • Oven

Instructions:

  • Sift together almond flour and powdered sugar into a bowl.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk egg whites until foamy, then add cream of tartar and gradually add granulated sugar while whisking until stiff peaks form.

  • Fold the dry ingredients into the egg whites gently until the mixture flows like lava and is shiny.

  • If using, add food coloring and mix until evenly distributed.

  • Transfer the batter to a piping bag and pipe small circles onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Let the piped macarons sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes until a skin forms on the surface.

  • Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F) and bake the macarons for 12-15 minutes.

  • Let them cool completely before filling with your choice of filling.
